The Key to a Thriving Landscape

Ornamental pruning isn't just about looks, though it helps with that too:

  • Better airflow and sunlight reaching the plant's interior
  • Removal of unhealthy or crossing branches
  • More consistent blooms on flowering shrubs
  • Trees and shrubs kept at a size that fits your space
  • Fewer safety issues from overgrown or weak branches near walkways and structures
  • A landscape that looks cared for, not just planted

Regular pruning keeps small shaping jobs small, instead of letting them turn into major restoration work..

  • What is ornamental pruning, and why does it matter?

Ornamental pruning is the careful, selective removal of branches and growth to improve a plant's shape, health, and appearance. It helps plants grow the way you want them to, improves airflow, removes unhealthy wood, and keeps trees and shrubs at a manageable size. Done regularly, it can also improve flowering and prevent the kind of overgrowth that becomes a safety issue.

  • When's the best time for ornamental pruning?

It depends on the plant. Most deciduous trees and shrubs do best pruned in late winter or early spring, before new growth starts. Spring-flowering plants should be pruned right after they bloom, and summer-flowering plants in late winter or early spring. Evergreens need very little pruning, but can be shaped in late spring or summer. Fall pruning is generally best avoided — it can trigger new growth that won't survive winter.

  • How often should ornamental trees and shrubs be pruned?

Most benefit from yearly attention. Fast growers might need it twice a year; slower-growing plants might only need real work every two or three years. A good rule of thumb: check for overgrowth, crossing branches, or dead wood, and let what you see guide the schedule.

Overgrown hedges, a shrub that's lost its shape, or a tree that needs a more deliberate cut — we handle all of it.
